RODERICK

Titled:  RODERICK

Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber; for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.  ~Ecclesiastes 10:20

This painting I did after a conversation I shared with Rod Knudslien recently.  (Buddha – other lives – maybe a bird) Rod is an Albertan by birth but now resides and paints in Bali where he has achieved great success.  It was my pleasure to have this most interesting and talented artist sit next to me on a trip back to Alberta from California.  I rarely speak to the person next to me.  I go back and forth so often, experience has taught me to smile at another new seat mate and then focus on what's in front of me.  Well I tried that with Rod, but in one tiny moment he had me.  I tried not to ramble on too much and enjoyed watching him do a hand drawing on his iPad and then we talked some more and by the time we landed I felt sad the flight was over and I'd never see this person again.  I was not the only one who found him delightful.  My Doug thought he was most engaging and we talked about him on the way home from the airport.  Too bad he lived in Bali - he would be a great friend.  Long story short, we did meet up again and met his twin sister and now stay connected via technology Bali - High River.

Roderick says, “I expect we will be life long friends and feed off of each others creative energies  and friendship.”  I expect we will too.

His art is amazing and of course geared to an Indonesia/Bali lifestyle.  His work is highly visible and available in Singapore and many other locations... like Palm Desert CA.  He is all about color... and that has inspired me to branch out into the 'colorful side of life' and expand my abilities.  I'm scared to death, but doing it anyway. Please check out Rod's sights on the internet.  He has a blog, which is how this started for me.  His partner Curtis Beaverford suggested I try it and so ... here I am.

Here is his blogspot address:    roderickknudslien.blogspot.com

Let me introduce RODERICK!  He's not quite finished...

F R I E N D S H I P

My art has been on the back burner for a few months.  I've been taking lots of photographs ... and enjoying every minute of it.  When I start my treks back and forth it's hard for me to paint when I am in California.  I miss my studio desperately and on a particularly bad day, wish I was home in freezing temperatures doing what I really find satisfying. On other days, I'd rather be there and golfing or hiking.  I'm 57... what can I say?

I met an artist this past December who has really re-inspired me to paint with a lot more color than before.  I must admit I'm still a little afraid of it, but find all the color adds new emotion and energy to the piece.  (I will ask him if he minds me mentioning his name before sharing - he's brilliant)  This time around I'm entering the studio with a different frame of mind and intention than before.  I'm interested to see what transpires.  Hope you will be too.  Art I'm finding is a journey for me.  One that takes me in many directions and offers so much more than a completed work ... every piece is a lesson and a victory.

Titled Friendship, it's full of a lot of emotion and love and turmoil.  It's about friendship with myself and with others.  About old friends and new ones.  The journey and those we meet along the way and those we leave behind.  All the little photographs make up the one larger piece that measures 4' x 5' (photo #6) (I'm not that good at this yet so don't know how to move #6 to #1, but I'll work on it LOL)
